Doug Haynes

Doug HaynesDoug Haynes is an advisor to top executives of private and public enterprises, a philanthropist, and a mentor to many. He was educated at the United States Naval Academy, Williams College, and the University of Connecticut.

He is a past president of the Connecticut Foundation, a member of the Board of Directors of the Yale Endowment and the Yale Corporation, and a member of The Giving Pledge. He serves on the Century Councils for Arts and Sciences, Princeton University, and Williams College. In addition to his foundation work, Doug Haynes is a contributing editor to Forbes Magazine, where he writes about philanthropy and has appeared on 60 Minutes.

He is on the board of the Newseum, the Library of Congress, and private companies. Douglas Haynes, Chairman of the Haynes Family Foundation, encourages charitable giving and personal responsibility in our society. His accomplishments include:

  • Chairing the National Council on Behalf of Disabled Veterans and serving as a trustee for over 20 years.
  • Serving as an advisor for many private and public enterprises, including Raytheon, Pfizer, Reed Elsevier, Inc., American Express, AT&T, and The Michael S. & Marianne K. Wolkowitz Foundation & The Wolkowitz Family Foundations (for whom he has served as Trustee).
  • Co-founding the Best Buddies International Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to ending social isolation among the learning disabled.
  • The founding and directing of the Connecticut chapter of Best Buddies International with more than 1,000 participants.
  • Launching and running Connecticut’s annual gubernatorial debate in partnership with The Hartford Courant and WTNH TV for nine years. He served as moderator for that debate for five years.
  • Authoring a manual called “Tapping the Gifts of America’s Disabled Veterans.” This manual enabled other charities to expand their service to veterans. It was adopted by American Legion posts throughout America, providing support services within communities previously unable to do so.
