Why Did Shelton Haynes Upgrade Roosevelt Island Youth Center?
Shelton Haynes is the Acting President and CEO of Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation (RIOC). In his tenure with RIOC, he has been committed to making the organization better by being transparent, and delivering projects within promised time.
Haynes rallied with Roosevelt Island residents to upgrade the Roosevelt Island Youth Center (RYIC) so that they may enjoy better programs. RYIC is a youth center on Roosevelt Island, designed to be the perfect meeting place for residents between the ages of six and eighteen.
The reason why Shelton Haynes rallied with residents is because RYIC wasn’t up to par with its recreation programs. Residents were not satisfied with the previous RIOC administration. So he took it upon himself to solve the problem by working with residents, and upgrading the RYIC.
Shelton Haynes worked with residents to upgrade RYIC because he has a passion for the youth of New York City, and Roosevelt Island in particular. He felt that if RYIC was not improved, it would be a waste of a valuable asset for young people.
The newly renovated facility has so many benefits.
- Children Get to Learn New Skills
The newly remodeled youth center has unique skill development programs. These programs allow children to experience different skills, such as arts and crafts, dance, sports, and science. The new center is also a place for students to develop social skills.
- Children Can Meet Other Children Near Their Age
The RYIC enables children to meet other kids near their own age. The facility is conveniently located in the middle of the Roosevelt Island community. This enables them to play with friends they have known since they were young.
- It Helps Reduce Juveniles Crime
The center allows children to learn how to be responsible adults. This helps reduce juvenile crime because they grow up to not experience it. The remodeled RYIC will improve the community security and give residents a peace of mind.
By investing in RYIC, Shelton Haynes and Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation helped to upgrade the Roosevelt Island Youth Center so that it may become a better place for kids to enjoy recreational programs. He made sure that programs were given attention and that they would not be forgotten, and he accomplished this by working with residents properly.
