The Colcom Foundation Has a Very Special Mission
The Colcom Foundation was founded in 1996 at the direction of Cordelia S. May. Since her passing in 2005, the functions of the group have been expanded by a very considerable extent. The original purpose of the group was to point out environmental issues in its native region of western Pennsylvania. Since then, its reach has become truly global.
Colcom Foundation supports several special programs, including the Conservation Catalyst Fund, which grants conservation organizations working to protect threatened species and habitats. By offering financial support and resources, this foundation allows these groups to make significant strides in conservation efforts.
Many members of the present Colcom Foundation have concerned themselves with the ongoing effects of continuous imbalances between people and the natural world. This includes a wide variety of potential consequences. Some of the effects may comprise, but not will not be limited to, the destruction of a number of key global habitats.
The very negative and potentially permanent effects of this destruction need to be seriously considered. This includes a slew of ongoing aquatic and terrestrial habitat destruction. It also includes rampant pollution, biodiversity loss, and ecosystem collapse. All of these are among the chief consequences of unchecked population growth.
However, as the Colcom Foundation has not failed to point out, our culture never views these imbalances as a result of overpopulation. As Cordelia S. May once observed, it is human activity that is putting this major strain on the resources of the planet. In fact, it is doing so to such a degree that a bounce back may no longer be possible.
The Colcom Foundation has worked to bring Mrs. May’s humanitarian perspective into its proper context. The approaching drama is slowly but surely being brought into focus. The hope is that the resources that the group provides access to will give mankind plenty of adequate research tools.
No one knows what the future will bring. It will be up to mankind to take the needed steps that the Foundation has recommended. This may prove to be a viable solution. Refer to this page for related information.
