Scott Berkowitz’s RAINN is At the Forefront of Fighting Abuse
Scott Berkowitz is a civil rights and social activism lawyer based in Washington, D.C. He’s the Founder of RAINN, the largest organization in the country working to help rape and sexual assault survivors heal and reclaim their lives.
RAINN offers a National Sexual Assault Hotline, along with other services, to help survivors of sexual violence on August 29th, 1988, after he sexually assaulted himself during his sophomore year at Amherst College.
Mr. Berkowitz also worked as the Staff Attorney for the District of Columbia in 1990. He has worked as the Director of Public Affairs for the ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union), a public-interest legal organization that advocates for civil and human rights issues. They provide legal assistance to challenge government activity and remedy violations of our civil and constitutional rights.
Mr. Berkowitz has held numerous positions in the public interest over the years, including serving as a board member for the National Task Force to End Teen Dating Violence. Other roles include executive director of Public Advocate, Inc., Vice President of Public Interest for Points of Light Foundation, and he currently serves on their board.

RAINN Statistics
RAINN offers several services and resources for survivors of sexual violence, including a hotline, online chat, and local support groups. RAINN statistics show that each year more than 240,000 Americans are sexually assaulted. Of every 1000 rapes, 496 will be reported to the police, and only 12 will lead to an arrest.
