Roy Beck: The Father Of Modern Immigration Reform Movement
Roy Beck is the father of America’s modern immigration reform movement. Roy has spent 40 years researching and writing about U.S. immigration policy, focusing on how American corporations use immigrants in the United States to keep wages low. Roy is an advocate for low-skilled immigrants and was instrumental in passing the 1994 Federal Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act (PRWORA).
Since then, Roy Beck has continued to lead a public education campaign to reform America’s immigration system, which he argues has been transformed into a massive welfare program for foreigners.
He is the National Chairman of the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), which works to help Congress enact immigration laws that would support higher wages and a higher standard of living for America’s citizens.
Roy Beck has published extensively in the media and authored 29 books. Roy began researching American immigration policy in 1969 when he wrote his master’s thesis at the University of California, Berkeley. He served as a program officer for the now-defunct Farfield Foundation, where he researched and wrote about population problems for 15 years. Roy also worked as an education analyst for the National Center for Educational Statistics (NCES) from 1984 to 1986. He is a former member of the board of directors of NumbersUSA and currently serves on the executive committee.
Roy has also been honored by the National Illegal Immigration Reform Organization (NIIRO), which named him the 1995 recipient of the NIIRO Citizenship Award. In 2006, Roy was awarded a Doctorate Honoris Causa from the Institute of Public Administration in Bucharest, Romania. Roy Beck was also presented with an honorary award by the National Council of La Raza for his work with immigrants. He was also named a Fellow of the American Immigration Council and received the Ellis Island Medal of Honor.
