Hassan Jameel’s Business Approach in the Digital Era

Hassan Jameel has been at the fore front of ensuring that Abdul Latif Jameel (ALJ) embraces digitization in various business aspects and stays innovative to stay on top of its game in this digital era. Founded 75 years ago, ALJ has its operations spanning thirty countries and is involved in various business lines. Since time immemorial, the company has been keen to ensure that continuous development and innovation are key components of its strategic approach. The realization on the value of data in growing and sustaining a business has driven the firm under the tutelage of its Vice chair and deputy president, Hassan Jameel, to include digitization in its development agenda.

Currently, ALJ has a B2B platform in place for vehicle parts and has plans to introduce a B2C platform as well. The platforms are critical in improving operations through proper and accurate forecasting, inventory planning, cost-saving and inculcating a data-backed culture in the organization. Additionally, ALJ aims at having a vibrant data science team in place to enhance and hasten problem-solving in operational, legal and financial realms. Hassan Jameel’s tech ambitions are consistent with Mohammed Bin Salman’s vision of embracing upcoming technologies in various sectors of Saudi Arabia’s economy by 2030.

Having studied in Japan, Hassan learnt and embraced critical business philosophies which are key in stimulating consistent growth. Kaizen, which is one of the philosophies, calls for continuous development and improvement. Toyota holds Kaizen dear, and it is here where Jameel got to see and experience the philosophy being applied effectively. The tech enthusiast holds that digitization stems from Kaizen and sees it as a key means of improving processes and developing a modern culture among ALJ’s staff. Genchi Genbutsu which advocates for in-person experiences is the other philosophy Hassan endeavors to utilize in business. While Hassan is clear on the integral role played by digitization, he is also clear on the fact that technology cannot completely do away with the need for human interaction.
