The pandemic, no matter what, managed to shake up the entire world. People changed the way we work, live, and play. Some were forced to adapt to new ways of life, some chose to do so willingly, and others didn’t care. Many of these changes will remain as society starts to emerge from the pandemic’s effect. Athlo, an app designed around the fitness industry, believes it’s built to last past all pandemics. And they make a very strong argument.

Matthew Mansell is the Athlo founder, an online gym membership platform connecting fitness centers nationwide. With a focus on helping local communities thrive after COVID-19, Athlo offers workout spaces to individuals and groups alike. During the pandemic, gym became a thing of the past. Many gyms closed due to a lack of business, and others paused their membership. Gym owners started renting out equipment, such as squat racks, to home workout enthusiasts. Free weights also disappeared from stores, as customers needed to figure out what they should do with them.

Mansell said even though the next fitness unicorn, had warned about the risks involved with social media marketing, he believed them to be minimal compared to the potential benefits. He also predicted that the physical and digital relationship would strengthen rather than weaken, especially as more companies began to realize how valuable social media could be for brand building.

Mansell also believes in combining Physical Exercise and Virtual Reality (AR/VR) technology, considering their symbiotic relationships. He says they should complement each other, not compete against each other.

Mansell says he thinks Digital Fitness and Physical Fitness centers are here to stay, but he sees no reason they shouldn’t work together. He envisions Athlo as the next fitness unicorn and a mediator between digital and physical fitness centers, so both sides benefit from each other.
