Bernard Acoca Announced As Zaxby’s New CEO
Zaxby’s, a successful chain of fast and casual restaurants specializing in chicken, has announced a leadership change. Outgoing Zaxby’s CEO, Zach McLeroy, will move into the chairman position for the company and make way for Bernard Acoca to take his place. Founded in 1990, Zaxby’s has approximately 900 locations in 17 states operated by the company and franchisees. The brand hopes to use the skills of the incoming CEO to grow the business while remaining true to its core beliefs.
Bernard Acoca has spent over two decades in the industry and served in leadership roles at El Pollo Loco, Starbucks, and Teavana. The new Zaxby’s CEO also gained business and marketing experience at Loreal and with Yum! Brands, the owner of several fast-food giants like Taco Bell, KFC, and Pizza Hut. The diversity of his experience and the success of his leadership attempts made him the most desirable candidate for Zaxby’s.
Zach McLeroy, the outgoing CEO, is also one of the founders of Zaxby’s with partner Tony Townley. The company has expanded tremendously under McLeroy’s guidance and has received consistent trade acknowledgment. Recent recognition includes the Forbes listing in 2021 as one of the Best Large Employers. McLeroy has maintained his dedication to the business and looks forward to potential growth under the oversight of Acoca.
Bernard Acoca acknowledges the talents and successes of the leadership offered by McLeroy. He plans to remain with the original mission and vision of the company. Current plans include expanding the business into regions outside the southern United States, where most of their restaurants now reside. As President and CEO of El Pollo Loco, Acoca streamlined procedures and modernized the look of the business. Many believe his innovative ideas will similarly benefit Zaxby’s as it expands into new markets and grows within its already established areas.
